Columbus Wedding Budget Basics

Whether a luxury black-tie affair or a DIY celebration, every wedding has a budget. But no matter the budget, experts tell us that the percentage of money spent on each aspect of the wedding stays fairly consistent from event to event. The largest portion of the budget is generally reserved for the reception, at about 48%. Brides spend about the same amount of money on their flowers, gown, and entertainment – approximately 10% for each.

With these rough estimates in mind, it is easy to make adjustments. For instance, if you are having a reception at someone’s home instead of a catering hall, you will have much more of your budget to spend on other things.

Expert Tip: Set aside 5% of your budget for “just in case”. This ensures that if you run into some unexpected costs, you are covered.

The best way to plan a wedding is to determine how much money you have up front. You can include your own savings, any money that parents have agreed to contribute, and the amount of money in your own monthly budget which will be set aside leading up to the wedding.  It is important to note that if you do not have a personal budget currently, you should draw one up to support any wedding planning.
